The Galaxy S22 series launched back in 2022, and since then, it has received four major OS upgrades. Its final major OS upgrade—One UI 8 (Android 16)—came out in October. Now, Galaxy S22, S22+, and S22 Ultra owners may be wondering what’s next for their phones when it comes to software updates.

One UI 8.5 should be the S22 series’ final feature update

The good news is that the Galaxy S22 series likely isn’t done receiving One UI updates. Based on Samsung’s update history, the final One UI version for the S22 lineup will be One UI 8.5.

While it won't represent a major jump in version numbers, One UI 8.5 should still bring noticeable changes and improvements. In fact, One UI 8 was one of the smallest major One UI updates in years, and One UI 8.5 could easily offer just as many—if not more—meaningful additions and refinements.

One UI 8.5 will make its debut on the Galaxy S26 series, expected to launch in late February 2026 according to rumors. If Samsung adopts a pace similar to the One UI 8 rollout, the Galaxy S22 series should receive the One UI 8.5 update by the end of April at the latest.

That would mark the final feature-rich update for the S22 lineup, closing out a four-year run of major and minor upgrades.

Security updates will continue for a while

Once One UI 8.5 is out, the Galaxy S22 series will only receive security updates. At the moment, Samsung provides monthly security patches for the S22, S22+, and S22 Ultra. However, after the series completes four years on the market next February, Samsung will move it to a quarterly update schedule.

Even then, users can expect continued protection well into 2026 and beyond, ensuring that the S22 lineup remains secure and reliable for at least another year.
