Samsung's first dual-folding phone is now official, and if you care about durability, it arguably has the best dual-hinge form factor possible. Rather than folding in a zig-zag pattern, the Galaxy Z TriFold rolls in on itself to protect the entire surface of the foldable screen when folded shut.

This form factor offers the best protection for the 10-inch foldable panel; however, it comes with a caveat. Namely, there is a right and a wrong way to fold the Galaxy Z TriFold. And the phone will alert you if you're doing it wrong.

Always go from left to right, and beware of the auto-alarm

The Galaxy Z TriFold consists of three segments connected by hinges. When you're using the phone as a tablet and want to fold it, you're supposed to close the left side first, then cover it with the right side.

Then, once folded correctly, you can flip the phone over and start using the 6.5-inch cover screen.

Again, you're supposed to go left side inward first whenever the foldable panel is facing you and the cover screen is facing outward.

Conversely, the Galaxy Z TriFold can't be folded right side first. The right side holds the camera housing, and it's always supposed to come last.

If you do it wrong, Samsung says the Galaxy Z TriFold will alert you through on-screen alerts and vibrations. But exactly what can happen, if anything, if you try to fold the device the wrong way is unknown.

At worst, it looks as though you might be able to push the foldable screen too hard into the camera housing and dent the panel, or worse. Whether the hinges can suffer damage from incorrect folding is unclear.

Hopefully, Samsung took every scenario into account and designed the Galaxy Z TriFold in such a way that folding the phone the wrong way doesn't mean an automatic critical failure. Those alarms are welcome, but they don't sound like the most foolproof solution.
