Samsung unwrapped the highly anticipated Galaxy Z TriFold at APEC 2025 late last month, and the company is now gearing up to release the dual-hinged phone before the end of the year. But if you're thinking of buying one, you may not want to set yourself up for disappointment.
Apart from supposedly launching in only a few markets, the Galaxy Z TriFold may become one of Samsung's rarest phones. Information gathered from the supply chain and passed along by the Korean media says that Samsung has so far produced only 20,000 to 30,000 Galaxy Z TriFold units.
Not only is this a lower amount than initially thought, but supply chain sources are unsure whether Samsung will order more parts. Another supplier mentions that Samsung will likely manufacture more units if the demand is high enough.
Either way, an initial run of 20,000 to 30,000 units is very small relative to the mobile market. And if Samsung decides against producing more units, the Galaxy Z TriFold could very well become a rare commodity.
To put things into perspective, the Galaxy S25 Edge, which might be a sales failure, achieved roughly 650,000 sales in its first month of market availability.
Then again, the Galaxy Z TriFold is an entirely different beast. Not only will it be more expensive than the S25 Edge, but the dual-hinged foldable form factor puts the TriFold and its creator in a unique position.
Samsung is taking a big risk with the launch of a new and very expensive device. It makes sense that the company may want to play it safe and avoid overstocking. But this also leaves component suppliers in an odd spot.
So far, Galaxy Z TriFold component suppliers haven't received any new updates from Samsung. They don't know what the company's production plans might be in the near future. However, they are expecting to receive word from the tech giant by December at the latest.
