Choosing the right Galaxy A phone can be a daunting task, especially in markets where Samsung sells the entire, expansive A-series lineup. In the USA, you only have four options, but in reality, we think we can narrow it down to two.
Samsung tried for years to streamline its Galaxy A series of phones, and admittedly, it is easier to understand it now than it was just a few years ago. The lineup is even narrower in the USA, but still, we can probably do better. If you're looking for a simple choice, here are our top two picks.
Assuming you've read our Galaxy A56-related coverage before, you probably saw this coming. The Galaxy A56 is our top pick from the Galaxy A lineup thanks to its many qualities. In fact, it might be one of our favorite Samsung phones of 2025.
Samsung Galaxy A56 Review
The A56 is the only A-series phone that will give you a fairly smooth UI experience that is comparable to higher-end phones. That's quite an advantage for the price.
Furthermore, the Galaxy A56 is also the only one in the series to boast two-day battery life. Even flagships struggle to achieve this in many cases.

Samsung's A56 has an aluminum frame, which feels great and gives it greater rigidity. It also boasts faster cameras, comparable to high-end devices, and 45W charging, among other notable qualities.
All in all, the Galaxy A56 is the best choice if you don't want to spend more than $500 on a new Samsung phone but you appreciate UI responsiveness, battery life, and a decent build. It's the priciest Galaxy A phone, but it offers a lot for the money.
As for our second pick, it wasn't easy, but if you want to spend as little money as possible on a new Samsung phone in the USA and still care about specs and features, we think that the Galaxy A26 hits that balance better than its two closest siblings.
Galaxy A26 keeps boredom out of the equation
On the one hand, the cheaper Galaxy A16 is technically a 2024 model for $100 less. It has a lesser IP54 dust and water resistance rating, lower build quality, and poorer specs all around.
On the other hand, the Galaxy A36 costs $100 extra, but if you're willing to go the extra mile, you're way better off paying $499 for the Galaxy A56 instead of $399 for the A36.
This kind of makes the Galaxy A26 the most sensible choice for USA customers who want to save as much cash as possible, but at the same time they want to avoid the cheapest, lowest-specced A-series phone.
Oh, and, the Galaxy A16 is also a rather poor choice for prospective buyers in the USA because the A17 is already on sale in other markets — just not yet Stateside.
But whether you choose the more budget-focused Galaxy A26 or the higher-specced Galaxy A56, you get to benefit from Samsung's extended firmware policy.
The two phones come with Android 15 out of the box and an Android 16-based One UI 8.0 update will be waiting for you on day one.
Beyond Android 16, Samsung will support the A26 and A56 with five more major OS upgrades.
