You may have heard us or me say this before, but the Galaxy A56 is one of my favorite Samsung smartphones of the year. Of course, it's not technically superior to the premium S25 offerings or more exciting than the Z foldable lineup, but it did what it set out to do better than any of its predecessors. It nailed battery life and smoothness, but can One UI 8 keep it that way? Or will it ruin it?

Hear me out. One UI 8 appears to be a good update. It may not be full of new features, but it looks stable and almost like a more polished version of One UI 7. However, there's always a risk that a new major OS update will make things worse for some devices. And, in my experience, the risk is greater for cheaper phones.

It's no secret that Samsung has numerous Galaxy devices at different price points on the market. And it's fair to assume that the company will probably spend more time optimizing the new One UI 8 update for some Galaxy phones than others.

On which side of the coin will the Galaxy A56 be?

The Galaxy A56's smooth, long-lasting performance might be the result of better hardware, but it may also be the result of Samsung spending more time optimizing One UI 7 for the device.

The question now is whether or not Samsung will continue to give the Galaxy A56 the attention it deserves and spend as much time optimizing One UI 8 for the Galaxy A56 as it will other, more expensive phones.

Will the Galaxy A56 maintain its two-day battery life and mostly lag-free UI performance even after One UI 8? Or will it be one of those devices that worked almost perfectly out of the box, only for the first OS upgrade (of six) to unsettle the balance and worsen the experience forever?

There's no way to tell until the update rolls out. But this is the biggest test the Galaxy A56 has ever faced. The Galaxy A56 is among the phones that will receive One UI 8 this year, so we will find out soon enough.

The Galaxy A56 is the mid-range phone that broke the mold for the A series. We hope it will continue to do so. At the very least, it deserves to retain its two best qualities — battery life and smooth UI — for much longer than half a year.
