Over the past few years, Samsung has been quite slow with hardware upgrades for the Galaxy S series. For example, the company used the same 10MP telephoto camera for the past three years and a 12MP ultrawide camera for the past five years. I wish to see better hardware with the Galaxy S26 series.

Here are all the upgrades I wish to see early next year in Samsung's high-end phones.

1. Higher resolution telephoto cameras

The 10MP sensor that Samsung uses for telephoto cameras on the Galaxy S and Galaxy Z series is quite dated and has started to show its age. I want to see Samsung replace it with a 50MP sensor that can capture more details. A 50MP camera with 3x optical zoom should bring noticeable improvements in image and video quality.

If the Galaxy S26 Edge is really replacing the Galaxy S25+, I want to see a telephoto camera on it as well. Maybe Samsung can use its ALoP technology to bring a telephoto camera in a slimmer package.

A higher resolution sensor would also allow the phones to record 8K videos, which is currently not possible with telephoto cameras on the base and Plus models of the Galaxy S series phones.

2. Ultrawide cameras with autofocus on all models

I would ideally want to see a 50MP ultrawide camera on all three models in the Galaxy S26 series. However, recent leaks point to Samsung reusing a 12MP ultrawide camera on the non-Ultra Galaxy S26 models. But I want Samsung to equip the ultrawide camera with an autofocus lens that can offer sharper results and macro capabilities.

3. Bigger battery and faster charging

This is where most people, including me, want Samsung to improve. The Galaxy S25 has a 4,000mAh battery, while the Galaxy S25+ has a 5,000mAh battery. I want to see Samsung switch to silicon carbon batteries with the Galaxy S26 series.

It would be great if the Galaxy S26 is powered by a 4,300mAh battery, while a 4,500mAh battery would be good enough for the Galaxy S26 Edge, which is rumoured to be succeeding the Galaxy S25+.

Samsung should also bring 45W fast charging to the Galaxy S26 and the Galaxy S26 Edge. The Galaxy S26 Ultra should ideally have 65W fast charging.

4. Better water resistance

It has been ten years since Samsung started equipping its phones with an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance. Its Galaxy S series phones can resist water for 30 minutes at up to 1.5 metres of depth. In comparison, iPhones can resist water for 30 minutes at up to 6 metres of depth.

I want to see Samsung either offer an IP69 rating, which means protection against high-temperature, high-pressure water jets, or at least match iPhones in terms of water resistance.

5. A faster USB port

Samsung's high-end phones have a USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-C port with 5Gbps data transfer speeds. I wish to see the company equip all Galaxy S26 series phones with a USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C port with 10Gbps data transfer speeds and up to 4K 120Hz display output for a smooth experience while using Samsung DeX.

6. UWB on all models

Ultra-Wideband (UWB) is important for precision finding of object trackers like the Galaxy SmartTag 2. However, the feature has been available only on the Plus and Ultra models of recent Galaxy S series phones. I want to see Samsung equip even the base Galaxy S26 with UWB.

None of the features that I mentioned are too hard to bring to phones. Samsung can do it, and it would make Galaxy fans super happy if the company incorporates these features in the Galaxy S26, Galaxy S26 Edge, and the Galaxy S26 Ultra next year.
