All models in Samsung's new smartwatch lineup use the Exynos W1000 chip. This chip was launched last year with the Galaxy Watch 7 and the Galaxy Watch Ultra, and no other brand has managed to catch up to it yet. And it looks like they won't be able to do so for the foreseeable future.

Google's Pixel Watch 4 won't be able to match performance of Galaxy Watch 7, 8, and Ultra

The Exynos W1000 is Samsung's first 3nm chip. It features one high-performance CPU core (Cortex-A78) and four efficient CPU cores (Cortex-A55). This is the first time a high-performance CPU core, often used in smartphone and tablet chips, has been used in a smartwatch chip. So, the chip performs really well without consuming too much power. No other existing smartwatch chip is as efficient and powerful as the Exynos W1000.

A recent report indicates that Qualcomm has started working on a similar chip, featuring one high-performance CPU core, However, it hasn't been announced yet, and it is likely that it won't be announced for months from now. So, realistically, a smartwatch based on that chip won't likely be released this year.

Google is expected to announce its new Pixel Watch next month, and it won't catch up to the performance or recent Galaxy Watches. According to a report from Android Authority, the Pixel Watch 4 will use the same Snapdragon W5 Gen 1 chip that it has been using for the past two generations.

This 4nm Snapdragon chip has four power-efficient CPU cores (Cortex-A53) and a co-processor. It lacks any high-performance CPU core, and its cores are older than the efficient cores used in the Exynos W1000. It also features slower RAM (LPDDR4) and storage (eMMC 4.5) compared to the Exynos W1000's LPDDR5 RAM and eMMC 5.1 storage.

Google is the only real competition Samsung has in the Wear OS smartwatch segment. Other brands, including OnePlus, OPPO, and Xiaomi, also use Snapdragon Wear chips in their smartwatches. So, it doesn't look like they will be able to catch up to Samsung's Galaxy Watches in terms of performance and efficiency for the next one year.
