Samsung aims to boost foldable phone sales in 2026. While the Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Galaxy Z Fold 7 are impressive, the company needs to improve specifications and technology in a few areas, particularly with Apple’s anticipated launch of its first foldable iPhone next year.
The Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Galaxy Z Fold 7 achieved pre-order records in certain countries. However Samsung is setting its sights higher with the Galaxy Z Flip 8 and Galaxy Z Fold 8. A report (via @Jukanlosreve on X) from The Bell reveals that the South Korean company aims to boost sales of its foldable phones to 6.7 million units next year. That would be a 10% improvement compared to its foldable devices launched in 2025.

Samsung is reportedly concentrating on the Galaxy Z Flip 8 for which its has planned substantial improvements. Launching in mid-2026, the phone is said to feature significant form factor enhancements, including thinner and lighter construction. This could be Samsung's way to be prepared for Apple’s anticipated entry into the foldable phone market.
Samsung could draw on the lessons learned from the Galaxy S25 Edge to make the Galaxy Z Flip 8 10% thinner and lighter than the Galaxy Z Flip 7. It isn't clear if the company plans to bring improved camera hardware or bigger battery to the upcoming foldable phone.
The report also claims that Samsung aims to sell 36 million Galaxy S26 series phones. This figure is similar to the Galaxy S25 series' sales target. This means the South Korean firm aims to bring most of its sales growth from its foldable phones. If it doesn't bring major improvements next year, it risks a drop in sales and Apple could it into its market share.
