Samsung, in its semiconductor manufacturing facility in Pyeongtaek, is currently operating three manufacturing lines, P1, P2, and P3. In 2022, the brand started construction of P4, and later of P5. However, due to a downturn in the semiconductor market, the company halted the construction of P4 and P5.

Lately, there has been an immense increase in demand for AI, and therefore, an increase in demand for AI accelerators and memory chips for it. As Samsung saw an increased demand for its chips, the South Korean tech giant resumed the construction of P4 and P5. Well, we have an update on that.

Samsung has planned to construct the P4 in four phases. Now, the company is investing KRW 4.2 trillion (approximately $3 billion) in the construction of Phase 4 of P4 (via Korea JoongAng Daily).

Reportedly, with this investment, the cost of the construction has increased by 50% compared to the cost the brand had initially disclosed. Samsung has also delayed the completion of the project by three months to April 2027.
