While Samsung failed to equip the Galaxy S25 with the Exynos 2500 earlier this year, the 3nm chip will debut next month with the Galaxy Z Flip 7. Samsung is now moving ahead with the production of the Exynos 2600 chip for the Galaxy S26 series that will launch early next year.

Exynos 2600 prototype production reportedly started using 2nm process node

According to a report from a Korean publication, Samsung Foundry has begun the mass production of prototypes of the Exynos 2600 chip, which is expected to be used in the Galaxy S26 series in 2026. Apparently, it is being fabricated on the company's 2nm process node and is said to be a landmark return of Exynos in the Galaxy S series.

The mass production of Exynos 2600 prototype chips was started after the completion Exynos 2500′ chip's mass production last month. The South Korean firm secured a 30% yield for the chip during the test production phase earlier this year. Since then, the yield and the wafer input has reportedly increased.

Samsung Foundry (Samsung's chip fabrication/manufacturing division) and System LSI (Samsung's chip design division) are reportedly working together since last month to improve the yield of the Exynos 2600 beyond 50% without any performance degradation.

The South Korean firm reportedly has an internal goal of starting the risk production of its first 2nm Exynos chip before the end of this year. Risk production is a stage in which the quality of the chip is verified and functional tests are completed. The process safety and yields are then analyzed before the actual mass production starts.

If the Exynos 2600 passes verficiation and if the yields are good enough, the mass production will happen towards the end of this year and the chip will be equipped in at least some Galaxy S26 series phones before their launch in February 2026. The phones are expected to go on sale by the end of February or in March.

If Exynos 2600 succeeds, it will be a win-win situation for Samsung's chip and mobile divisions

The whole semiconductor industry will closely monitor the performance of the Exynos 2600, as it will be the first chip to be made using Samsung Foundry's 2nm process. Its performance will make or break Samsung Foundry's future in the advanced semiconductor chip process nodes.

Currently, almost all brands are using TSMC's 3nm and newer process nodes for their chips, and if Samsung Foundry wants a piece of that pie, it needs to make sure the Exynos 2600 doesn't have any performance, efficiency, or heating issues. If it succeeds, it will be a win-win situation for Samsung Foundry, Samsung MX, and System LSI divisions.
