It has been over a decade since Samsung launched its first connected and smart home appliances, and the company now promises to make home appliances that are even smarter and more power efficient. To that end, Samsung has signed the European Unionâs (EU) Code of Conduct (CoC) for interoperability and Energy Smart Appliances (ESAs).
The CoC aims to accelerate the rollout of intelligent home appliances that can communicate with energy systems for improved power efficiency. It was developed by the European Commissionâs Joint Research Centre (JRC) and Directorate-General (DG) for Energy in partnership with major home appliance brands.
The initiative promotes cross-brand communication between home appliances by defining common energy-related services and the information needed to enable them, even when devices use different communication and connectivity protocols.
Samsungâs Bespoke AI Dishwasher and Bespoke AI Combo, which combines a washer and dryer into a single unit, are now listed in the European Product Registry for Energy Labelling (EPREL) database as ESAs. Both appliances support the Optimal Scheduling feature in SmartThings Energy, allowing them to operate during off-peak hours to help lower electricity bills.

Samsung plans to launch more smart home appliances that comply with the CoC guidelines while continuing to improve power efficiency for consumers.
Hyesoon Yang, Executive Vice President of the Digital Appliances (DA) New Biz team, said, âSamsung believes connected appliances can play a meaningful role in the energy transition by helping households use energy more intelligently without adding complexity to everyday life. By joining this EU initiative, we aim to help make energy-smart functionality more accessible to consumers.â
