Google recently announced that it has added AirDrop compatibility to Quick Share. This means Samsung and other Android phones and tablets can send files to and receive files from iPhones, iPads, and Macs. This feature will come to Samsung's Galaxy devices via an update in the near future.
Quick Share has received AirDrop compatibility, but this feature currently works only on Google's Pixel 10 series phones. Other Android phones will get this feature in the near future via an update to Quick Share (and Quick Share extension). So, Samsung Galaxy phones and Android phones from other brands will be able to send files to iPhones, iPads, and Macs. They can receive files from those devices without the need for any third-party app.

Quick Share will use AirDrop's ‘Everyone for 10 minutes' mode. It relies on Bluetooth for device discovery and Wi-Fi Direct for actual file sharing. Files don't go through any servers, so there is no privacy or security risk to speak of.
Google has clarified that it didn't work with Apple to bring this AirDrop compatibility to Quick Share. It used its own implementations to make Quick Share work with AirDrop, according to a report from Android Authority. The company had been working on the feature for over a year. Google said to have gotten its implementation thoroughly checked by its own and third-party privacy and security teams.

Google hopes that Apple will someday cooperate with it to help bring AirDrop's ‘Contacts Only' mode to Quick Share. Until then, the current implementation will be enough and will be extremely useful for people who have friends or family members who own devices that use other platforms and want to share files effortlessly.
Since Apple hasn't given its blessings to Google, it can block the new Quick Share functionality at anytime. We will be interested to see how long Quick Share will work with AirDrop.
