The era of artificial intelligence is unfolding right before our eyes. As a highly diversified conglomerate, Samsung is uniquely positioned to take full advantage of this opportunity, and the company is taking major steps towards that goal.
Samsung has undertaken one of its largest rounds of executive promotion this week, promoting many executives with skills in AI, robotics, and advanced chips. These include 51 vice presidents, 93 executive directors, and 16 master engineers.
Samsung is making a generational shift to position itself for success in the AI era. Korean reports highlights that this annual reshuffle saw Samsung promote 161 employees to executive positions, a significant increase from the 137 people promoted to upper management last year.
Some notable appointments include newly minted vice president Lee Sung-jin was recognized for his work on generative AI and conversational AI in the mobile division. Lee Yoon-soo was appointed the head of data intelligence at Samsung Research after leading the rollout of a personalized data platform on Galaxy devices as well as GPU optimization for AI.
The semiconductor division saw Hong Hee-il being promoted to vice president for enhancing DRAM performance analysis and working on yield and reliability improvements for high-bandwidth and DDR5 memory.
The company has said that it's “boldly promoting” young talent that has demonstrated exceptional expertise. This move has brought younger, next-generation leaders into the management tier as the company seeks to rely on their capabilities to steer Samsung through the intense global competition in these key areas of interest.
