Even since he got out of legal trouble, Samsung Electronics chairman Jay Y. Lee has been travelling the world to improve the company's business. After meeting the chiefs of Mercedes-Benz, Nvidia, and Tesla, Lee reportedly met Indian business tycoon Mukesh Ambani to further improve Samsung's business.
Samsung Electronics chief Jay Y. Lee met Mukesh Ambani, the chairman of Reliance Industries, at Samsung Electronics' office in Seoul, South Korea. The two reportedly discussed cooperation in AI and cellular network segments. Ambani is also set to meet executives of Samsung SDI, Samsung C&T, Samsung SDS, Samsung Heavy Industries, and Samsung E&A.
Reliance Industries is a conglomerate that operates across dozens of business verticals, including entertainment, media, petrochemicals, real estate, retail, and telecommunications. The company, which has over 500 million subscribers, purchased telecommunication networking equipment from Samsung Networks to set up its 4G LTE network.
Ambani toured Samsung’s Giheung and Hwaseong semiconductor campuses in Gyeonggi with Lee. He is said to have also checked out Samsung’s latest technologies in extended reality (XR) and RGB displays.
Lee attended Ambani's younger son's wedding in India last year. This move was seen as a way to strengthen the ties between both companies. If Samsung gets the contract to supply 5G and 6G networking gear for Reliance Communications, the South Korean firm could earn at least a few hundred millions in revenue.
Reliance Industries has has announced that it plans to build massive AI data centers in collaboration with Meta. Samsung could potentially supply memory chips for those data centers. Reliance could also work with Samsung SDI for energy storage systems and battery solutions for its AI campus and with Samsung C&T for construction of its data centers.
