It has been rumored that Samsung plans to launch two Galaxy Z Fold series smartphones this year. One is expected to be the Galaxy Z Fold 8, while the other is said to feature a wider screen aspect ratio. This wider Galaxy Z Fold model has now been spotted in the GSMA database, suggesting that Samsung is planning a global launch.

Six variants of the upcoming wider Galaxy Z Fold device have appeared in the GSMA IMEI database. They are listed below.

    • SM-F971B: Global
    • SM-F971N: South Korea
    • SM-F971U: US carrier locked
    • SM-F971U1: US factory unlocked
    • SM-F971W: Canada
    • SM-F9710: China

The device reportedly carries the internal code name H8, while the regular Galaxy Z Fold 8 is said to use the code name Q8. All previous Galaxy Z Fold series devices have used code names starting with the letter Q. A few examples are listed below.

    • Galaxy Z Fold 5 (SM-F946): Q5
    • Galaxy Z Fold 6 (SM-F956): Q6
    • Galaxy Z Fold 7 (SM-F966): Q7

Since the new device uses the H8 code name, it appears to be something different from the existing lineup of Galaxy Z Fold series phones. Reports suggest that it will be shorter and wider than regular Galaxy Z Fold models. Its screen aspect ratio is said to be similar to that of the upcoming foldable iPhone. The internal display is rumored to feature a 1:1 (18:18) aspect ratio, which could provide a better experience while using apps and watching videos.

It remains to be seen whether this wider Galaxy Z Fold device will share the same specifications as the Galaxy Z Fold 8. It will most likely use high-end specifications.
