Samsung is the only brand that has consistently launched Android tablets for the past ten years. Two years ago, it started offering water resistance in its tablets, and that may have inspired Apple to bring the same feature to one of its tablets in the near future.

Inspired by Samsung, Apple could bring water resistance to the iPad Mini

A Bloomberg report claims that Apple could bring water resistance to the next iPad Mini (codename J510). It is reportedly slated to launch sometime early next year. The company has reportedly tested a redesigned casing that is water-resistant, and it will match a design used in recent iPhones.

As part of the redesign, Apple has reportedly explored a new speaker system that uses vibration-based technology rather than conventional speakers. This change reportedly allows the company to remove speaker holes altogether rather than using gaskets and adhesives to prevent water from entering the body.

This iPad Mini is also bringing another huge change. It is said to feature an OLED panel, bringing higher refresh rate, perfect blacks, and much better colors. Some iPad Mini units could use OLED panels made by Samsung Display, which means more revenue for Samsung.

Samsung first introduced IP68 rating for dust and water resistance in its tablets with the Galaxy Tab S9 in mid-2023. Then, the company expanded that feature to the Galaxy Tab S9 FE lineup in late 2023. In late 2024, the Galaxy Tab S10 series was launched with the same feature, which was then extended to the Galaxy Tab S10 FE series in mid-2025.
