Samsung is reportedly planning to launch two book-style foldable phones this year. One of them is the Galaxy Z Fold 8, which is expected to follow a design similar to the Galaxy Z Fold 7. The other device is rumored to be the Galaxy Z Fold Wide, which could feature shorter and wider displays. It may already have a competitor in the form of the Huawei Pura X Max.

Huawei Pura X Max will compete with the Galaxy Z Fold Wide

Earlier today, Huawei unveiled a new foldable phone called the Pura X Max. It features a passport-like form factor with shorter and wider displays, similar to the first-generation Google Pixel Fold and the OPPO Find N. The device is set to launch in China next week, arriving ahead of Samsung and Apple by a few months. However, it is unlikely to be released outside China.

The Pura X Max is available in four colors: black, orange, purple, and white. It builds on the Pura X, which was launched last year as a flip-style foldable phone.

Huaweiâs new foldable device appears to feature a triple-camera setup on the rear with a horizontal bar-style layout, likely consisting of a primary, ultrawide, and telephoto camera. The cover display includes a punch-hole cutout for the front-facing camera.

Samsung was the first brand to bring foldable phones to the global market. Its Galaxy Z Fold series has traditionally featured taller and narrower displays, although recent models have become slightly wider. Appleâs upcoming foldable iPhone, rumored to be called the iPhone Ultra, is expected to adopt a shorter and wider display. Samsung and other brands appear to be developing similar designs to compete in this segment.
