Philips Hue, a well-regarded name in the smart home lighting segment, has launched its first video doorbell. It is called the Hue Secure, and it features native SmartThings integration. So, if you have set up your smart home on the SmartThings platform, it would be a great video doorbell to get.

The $170 Hue Secure video doorbell features a 2K camera sensor, a fish-eye lens, a square aspect ratio, dual-band Wi-Fi connectivity, and Zigbee radio. It resembles most other video doorbells, with a vertical candybar shape and a prominent ring button on the front. More importantly, besides the Hue app, the video doorbell works natively with Google Home and Samsung SmartThings.

It is a wired video doorbell, so you need to connect it to a power source in your home. If you were hoping for a wireless video doorbell, this product might disappoint you.

It can be configured in a way that any of the compatible smart lights in your home turn on when anyone approaches the video doorbell. The Hue Secure also comes with a plug-in chime, which can act as a siren for the Hue security system in your home. It has a two-way talk mode that you can use to talk to your guests or delivery personnel. You will get alerts on your phone via the Hue app.

The new video doorbell comes with 24 hours of motion-activated video clips for free. And this benefit is being extended to existing Hue Secure products, including security cameras. The video doorbell isn't compatible with Apple Home and Matter as of now, but support for the latter will most likely come after the release of Matter 1.5 this fall.
