It looks like Samsung could be skipping One UI 7 Watch for its smartwatches and going straight from One UI 6 Watch to One UI 8 Watch, as discovered by X user IposDev and backed by our sources.
This decision was likely made to align the One UI software version for Samsung's smartwatches with that of its phones and tablets, which will get One UI 8 as the next big OS upgrade later this year.
Samsung has made similar moves when it comes to its smartphones. The second Galaxy Z Flip smartphone was called the Galaxy Z Flip 3, as the Galaxy Z Flip lineup was introduced after the Galaxy Z Fold lineup but the launch of the second Flip model coincided with the Galaxy Z Fold 3.
But One UI 8 Watch would be the first time Samsung is skipping version numbers for a major software update. The closest it has come to something like this was going from One UI 3 Watch to One UI 4.5 Watch, though in that instance, it didn't skip a number entirely.
At this time, we don't know what new features One UI 8 Watch will bring to eligible smartwatches, except for the fact that there will be a heavy focus on AI and new health tracking features, which was confirmed by Samsung in its earnings call in late April.
We are also told by our sources that Samsung is making the user interface more colorful, once again to match what is available on its smartphones and tablets. One UI 8 Watch will make its debut with the Galaxy Watch 8 series, which will include a Classic model with a physical rotating bezel.
Samsung might hold a limited beta program allowing users to test One UI 8 Watch on eligible smartwatches before rolling out the official update worldwide, though this is only speculation for now. We'll let you know as soon as we learn more about the next One UI update for Galaxy smartwatches, so stay tuned.
