Most One UI users already know they can assign a different ringtone to each contact, but you might have missed this: Beyond custom ringtones, One UI also lets you set different notification sounds for individual apps.

You can even go a step further and assign unique sounds to specific notification categories within each app.

Didn't know this feature existed? Don't blame yourself. It is one of the more hidden parts of One UI, and it takes a fair bit of menu diving to find it.

Here's how you can change per-app notification sounds on your Galaxy phone running One UI 8. Follow these steps:

    • Open Settings > Notifications > App notifications > Select an app > Allow notifications (if necessary) > Notification categories > Select a category (or General notifications) > Enable Alert > Sound > Select your preferred notification sound for the app/category.

A couple of things to keep in mind:

    • You have to select a category by tapping the name rather than the ON/OFF toggle.
    • You can set the same notification sound for all categories by selecting “General notifications.”
    • Not all categories support custom notifications.

Overall, Samsung's notification sound customization system is more powerful than most even realize. It is slightly buried in the menus, but now you know how to find it. Try it on your Galaxy phone and see how it works.
