Ever wished it was possible to pick up a task in an app on your Windows PC exactly where you left off on your Android-powered device? Apple's Handoff feature has made this possible between iPhones and Macs for years, while Microsoft's platform had no such functionality.

That's set to change, though. The Redmond-based software giant has confirmed a new feature is development which allows for seamless app continuity between Windows 11 PCs and Android devices, including Samsung's Galaxy.

Feature should arrive in the stable version over the next few months

Microsoft's Cross Device Resume feature is currently available on the Dev and Beta versions of Windows 11. It works with Spotify only right now but the company is encouraging developers to add support for this feature to their own apps.

The way this works in Spotify is that if you paused a podcast on your phone, you'll be able to resume it from where you left off on Windows 11. When the phone and PC are paired, a “Resume alert” will be displayed on the taskbar which when clicked brings up the app and resumes what you were doing before.

This feature will require that both the Windows PC and the Android phone have the Phone Link and Link to Windows apps running, respectively. For apps that require a login, like Spotify, users will need to be signed into the same account on both devices.

It's going to be very useful for a wide variety of tasks, and one can hope more developers take advantage of Cross Device Resume to make seamless app continuity across Windows and Android realize its true potential.

Since Samsung makes both Windows 11-powered laptops and Android phones, users who are in its ecosystem will dearly love this capability.
