At CES 2026 in Las Vegas, Samsung unveiled the first true sequel to The Freestyle projector. The new Freestyle+ features a refreshed design and clever AI-powered tricks. It's even capable of projecting perfectly straight images on uneven surfaces and corners.
These additions more than caught my eye, but even so, I felt like something was missing. I worry that Samsung may have overlooked one of the original Freestyle's best features: accessories.
The first Freestyle (including the 2023 Gen 2 refresh) owed much of its versatility to a few standout add-ons. The battery attachment made the Freestyle genuinely portable, and the socket adapter let you screw it into a lightbulb socket for top-down projections.

These accessories weren’t just convenient, they were unique to The Freestyle and changed the way we think about projectors.
What concerns me about the Freestyle+ despite its obvious upgrades is the complete silence on new accessories or compatibility with existing ones. At CES 2026, Samsung showed only the projector itself and a simple screen accessory that's not all that special. Likewise, the press release from a few days prior didn’t hint at any extras.
It’s possible Samsung will reveal Freestyle+ accessories later this year. The projector is set to go on sale in the first half of 2026. It’s also possible they didn’t sell enough original accessories to justify new ones. I’d be surprised if it’s the latter, but the possibility remains.
Still, I hope the Freestyle+ hasn’t lost some of the magic that made the original Freestyle special. And I have to wonder: without a battery accessory, can the Freestyle+ truly claim to be portable?
