If you are looking to buy a new official Samsung accessory for your Galaxy Z Fold 5 in 2025, you're going to have a bad time finding one in most markets.

As of this writing, Samsung no longer sells any Galaxy Z Fold 5 accessories in the USA, the UK, and India. You can buy a few in Germany, the Netherlands, and likely other European markets. But you probably already know all about the difficulties of obtaining a Galaxy Z Fold 5 accessory in 2025. You may have even resorted to third-party solutions.

Sadly, going the third-party route doesn't always solve the problem, particularly if you're looking for official accessories that are more bespoke, such as the S Pen case for your Fold 5.

This brings me back to the issue I highlighted last year regarding the fact that Samsung's firmware support policy for Galaxy devices extends far beyond accessory availability. And if we plan on using our phones for longer, the lack of accessories in the long run will make holding on to our devices more difficult.

I can't outright blame Samsung for this situation. This problem might be more complex than it seems. For one, it's hard to predict the demand for accessories over a long period, and I can understand why Samsung wouldn't want to manufacture too many units and end up with surplus stock.

Long-term accessory support might also limit Samsung’s creative freedom, forcing fewer new designs to maintain sustainability.

The solution might lie somewhere in the middle

I believe the solution might be for Samsung to offer extended availability for a few essential smartphone accessories rather than the entire lineup. Examples include:

    • A basic silicone bumper or case.
    • A leather case.
    • Screen protectors.
    • Anything that is proprietary and needed for the full device experience, such as the Galaxy Z Fold 5 S Pen case.

By committing to offering extended support only for a few accessories, Samsung would retain the freedom to experiment with a wide range of new designs for brand-new devices at launch while offering protection and support in the long run.

As much as we would want every accessory to be available for as long as our Galaxy phones get firmware updates, I don't think that's easily achievable or even logistically possible. Not today, when many Galaxy devices promise support for up to seven OS generations.

However, I don't think Samsung has yet found the middle ground and best compromise regarding accessories and their availability. Two years after launch, Z Fold 5 users in most markets can’t even buy an S Pen replacement. Samsung needs to find a better balance. Not necessarily for S Pen accessories — now that the Fold 7 no longer supports the stylus — but for other essential accessories.
