On Tuesday, Apple launched a new lineup of smartphones, the iPhone 17 series, featuring four models, iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Air, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max. These phones bring many upgrades over their predecessors.
One of them is Dual Capture, which can simultaneously record videos from the front and rear cameras. While that’s great, did you know that Samsung has been offering this feature on Galaxy smartphones for more than ten years now?
In 2014, Samsung launched the Galaxy S4, it brought many upgrades over its predecessor, the Galaxy S3. One of them was a feature called Dual Shot. It allowed users to take a photo or record a video with front and rear camera at the same time.

Photos and videos taken in Dual Shot show the view from the front and rear cameras in a single frame. Since then, Samsung has been offering this feature on all the high-end Galaxy smartphones, including Galaxy S and Galaxy Z series phones.

In the latest Galaxy phones, Samsung offers this feature as Dual Recording. You can find it in the Directors View mode. To access it, go to Camera » More » Director’s View and tap on the icon resembling a picture-in-picture view.
People usually blame Samsung for copying Apple but it is also the other way around very often. Another example of that is the iPhone 17 Air, for which, Apple followed Samsung’s footsteps and copied the Galaxy S25 Edge’s recipe.
Despite that, Galaxy S25 Edge is superior to the iPhone 17 Air in many aspects, including display size, number of cameras, battery capacity, and even battery endurance.

Apple copies Samsung too, more often than you think
