Last year, Samsung brought big changes to its wireless earbuds by changing the fundamental design of the Galaxy Buds 3. For the Galaxy Buds 4, however, the company is opting for a smaller design change while still focusing on audio quality improvements. Enhanced gestures on the Galaxy Buds 4 and the Galaxy Buds 4 Pro could further enhance their real-time language translation capabilities.

Galaxy Buds 4 could have pinch-and-hold gestures for Galaxy AI's Interpreter Mode

Android Authority reports that the Galaxy Buds 4 and the Galaxy Buds 4 Pro will have a pinch-and-hold gesture to launch Interpreter Mode, which is designed for real-time language translation. You can pinch and hold the earbuds' stems to pause and resume the translation. It is similar to what Apple's AirPods offer.

While the feature is available on the Galaxy Buds 3 and the Galaxy Buds 3 Pro as well, you have to first start Interpreter Mode on your compatible Galaxy phone or tablet and then start using the pinch-and-hold gesture to pause and resume language translation. On the Galaxy Buds 4 lineup, you don't need to start Interpreter Mode on your phone before using the pinch-and-hold gesture, but this works only when your Galaxy AI-compatible Galaxy phone is in range and connected with the Galaxy Buds 4.

This information comes from text strings discovered in the code of leaked One UI 8.5 files. One UI 8.5 will debut in its stable form on the Galaxy S26 series early next year. It isn't clear if this new pinch-and-hold gesture capability will expand to the Galaxy Buds 3 series with an app or software update.
