Easy repairability isn't what comes in mind when you think of foldable phones. They're complex devices with intricate mechanical hinges and fragile displays, so diving right in isn't for the faint of heart.
However, if you know your way around stuff and have the required tools, there's a surprising ease to the repairability potential of Samsung's latest flip foldable, the Galaxy Z Flip 7.
YouTuber JerryRigEverything, known for being quite brutal in his durability and teardown videos, has posted a new video on the Galaxy Z Flip 7 in which he takes apart the new device and offers his thoughts along the way. Be warned, though, if you don't like devices being torn apart mercilessly, you may want to cover your eyes.
Despite the rather jarring visuals of the foldable display being deliberately damaged or the cover glass hanging by just its ribbon cable, there are some notable conveniences. For starters, Samsung uses Philips head screws to lock down the various components, which makes repairability much easy as almost everyone has one of these lying around the house somewhere.
That's more than what one can say for iPhones that still have pentalobe screws. Apple sticks with them for some reason even as those screwdrivers aren't as ubiquitous. Samsung also doesn't super glue the batteries in this phone like it has on previous models.
Both batteries have pull tabs that make it very easy to remove the old battery and place a new one in the shell. This makes the crucial battery replacement very simple for someone who intends to keep their phone for a very long time.
With that being said, the foldable display panel still requires careful handling and if aren't quite sure of what you're doing, it'll most likely get damaged during the repair process. So while it's good to know that the foldable is repairable, it's probably best not to go proving that on your own.

Don't try this at home
