Although the competition from Chinese brands has increased over the past few years, Samsung has been in a comfortable position in terms of foldable smartphone sales due to its wider global reach. However, all that could change later this year, as Apple is expected to launch its first foldable iPhone, and Samsung may be forced to keep the Galaxy Z Fold 8 pricing similar to its predecessor.
Due to rising costs of semiconductor chips, especially memory chips, Samsung had to increase the prices of its phones. The Galaxy S26 series is pricier than the Galaxy S25 series, but the Galaxy Z Fold 8 may be priced the same as the Galaxy Z Fold 7. Apple is reportedly raising initial production volume for the foldable iPhone by 20 percent, as its confidence in the product has improved. The production volume was 8 million units, and it could rise to up to 15 million units.
It was earlier reported that the foldable iPhone could be priced at $2,400. However, a recent report hinted at the possibility of the phone being priced as low as $2,000. That is similar to the Galaxy Z Fold 7. So, to better compete with the foldable iPhone, Samsung may have to price the Galaxy Z Fold 8 similar to its predecessor. However, it is not easy to freeze its price.
Amid rising prices for memory chips and application processors (AP), Samsung is reportedly find it hard to price the Galaxy Z Fold 8 the same as its predecessor. The company, which earlier used components from South Korean firms, is now reportedly including more Chinese firms in parts supply for its next-generation foldable phone to reduce component costs.
The Galaxy Z Fold 8 is expected to feature a 6.5-inch cover OLED screen, an 8-inch foldable OLED screen, stereo speakers, a 200MP primary rear camera, a 50MP ultrawide camera, a 10MP/12MP telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom, and two 10MP selfie cameras.
It could come equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy chipset. It could be powered by a 5,000mAh battery and support 45W fast charging. Other features could include an IP58 rating for dust and water resistance, side-mounted fingerprint reader, NFC, UWB, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.0. and a USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-C port.
