One of the coolest things about Samsung’s Galaxy Watches is that they’re truly ambidextrous. With a couple of quick settings changes, you can wear your Galaxy Watch on whichever wrist you like.

Statistically, you’re probably right-handed and wearing your Galaxy Watch on your non-dominant wrist. You may see no reason to change that — until you bring a Samsung TV into the equation.

So what do Samsung TVs and Galaxy Watches have to do with each other? Thanks to SmartThings and Samsung’s cross-device wizardry, Galaxy Watch owners can control their TVs not just with the best remote in the TV business, but straight from their wrist.

Even better, Samsung introduced one of its most impressive non-traditional TV controls last year: Pointer Mode. It turns your Galaxy Watch into a motion controller, letting you wave your arm to move a cursor across the TV screen.

Naturally, Pointer Mode works best when the watch is on your dominant wrist. If you’ve ever tried using a mouse with your non-dominant hand, you already know why.

In other words, if you’re right-handed, wearing your Galaxy Watch on your right wrist can deliver a noticeably better Pointer Mode experience. Then again, this might make navigating your Galaxy Watch a bit more difficult, so you'll have to choose one or the other.

But who would’ve thought your TV could influence how you wear your smartwatch? That’s exactly what makes Samsung’s ever-expanding SmartThings ecosystem so appealing to us Samsung fans.

If you want to switch wrists, you can change both wrist and button orientation by heading to Settings > General > Orientation on your Galaxy Watch.

You can then access Pointer Mode by opening SmartThings on your Galaxy Watch, selecting your TV, and swiping up across the Watch remote.

Pointer Mode requires at least Tizen 9 on your Samsung TV. The update is available on 2024 TVs and newer, and should eventually roll out for select 2023 TVs.
