Samsung is a big player in the automotive tech segment. The company, and many of its subsidiaries, provide components such as semiconductors, displays, and more to leading car manufacturers.
The company is also actively innovating in this space, providing manufacturers with cutting edge technology to elevate in-car entertainment and safety. To that end, a meeting between the bosses could see more Samsung tech in your next Mercedes Benz.
Samsung Electronics Chairman Jay Y. Lee had a meeting with Mercedes Benz Chairman Ola Källenius earlier today in South Korea. The two reportedly discussed ways to enhance cooperation on automotive electronics.
This is the second meeting between the two following the last sit down six months ago at the China Development Forum in Beijing. Samsung SDI President Choi Joo-sun and Harman CEO Christian Sobottka were reportedly in the meeting as well.
The meeting's location is also of significance. It was held at Seungjiwon in Seoul, a property inherited from Samsung's founding patriarch Lee Kun-hee. Jay Y. Lee has hosted many important figures at this location, including Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg in February last year.
Samsung and Mercedes Benz already collaborate on in-vehicle infotainment platforms, audio systems, and digital keys. Harman, a Samsung subsidiary, supplies the MBUX infotainment platform installed in Mercedes Benz vehicles. Earlier this year, Samsung Wallet gained the ability to unlock and start Mercedes Benz vehicles through a digital key.
