Once Samsung finishes rolling out the One UI 7 (Android 15) update, it will move on to One UI 8. One UI 8, based on Android 16, will be the next major OS upgrade for many Galaxy smartphones and tablets.

As with previous versions, Samsung will offer a beta program for select Galaxy devices in select regions, allowing users to try out new features and improvements ahead of the stable release. The beta program could kick off as early as May, but which devices will it support?

As of May 20, Samsung has revealed exactly zero details about the One UI 8 beta program. That means there is no official information on the list of eligible devices, leaving speculation as our only option.

The beta program will start with the Galaxy S25 series

Samsung has been developing One UI 8 for a long time, and we have tested early firmware on devices like the Galaxy S25, Galaxy Z Fold 6, Galaxy Z Flip 6, and the Galaxy Z Flip 5. However, that does not mean all of these devices will get the One UI 8 beta.

At the time of publication, beta One UI 8 firmware only exists for the Galaxy S25 lineup. There's a good chance the initial wave will have the beta program going live for only the Galaxy S25, S25+, and S25 Ultra (and possibly the Edge model).

Samsung could bring older devices into the fold eventually. But since the One UI 7 beta program was limited to the Galaxy S24 series for many months before it expanded to other devices, we suggest a healthy dose of skepticism and low expectations until we get more information.

Hopefully, an extensive beta program won't even be necessary. The list of One UI 8 features is a short one, and according to Google, Samsung will have released the official One UI 8 (Android 16) update by September or October this year. Again, Samsung has not confirmed anything, so don't get too excited just yet.
