The Galaxy S21, Galaxy S21+, and Galaxy S21 Ultra turned four in January 2025. They launched back in 2021 running Android 11 and One UI 3 with a promise of four generations of OS upgrades and five years of security updates.
This year, the three phones will receive the last of the four promised upgrades: One UI 7, which is based on Android 15. One UI 7 started rolling out to newer flagships in early April, but when is it coming to the S21 series?
Samsung’s timeline for the One UI 7 rollout has the update scheduled for the Galaxy S21, S21+, and S21 Ultra for some time in May. As always, Samsung has not revealed an exact date, and the update will have a staggered release, which means not everyone will receive it at the same time.
What about the Galaxy S21 FE? The Fan Edition model is also on track to get One UI 7 in May. However, unlike its siblings, the Galaxy S21 FE has one more major OS upgrade in store.
Time for something new?
The FE model released a year after the other S21 models with a newer version of Android and One UI onboard, so it is also eligible for One UI 8 (Android 16). Samsung is already testing One UI 8 for several devices (check out our exclusive hands-on experience here) and is expected to release it to eligible devices in the second half of 2025.
What features can you expect on your Galaxy S21 series phone with One UI 7? Everything except all the new Galaxy AI features, as the Galaxy S21 lineup missed out on pretty much every Galaxy AI feature with One UI 6.1 as well.
