Samsung released two new premium tablets last week under the Galaxy Tab S11 brand. As you'd expect, they're more powerful than the previous Tab S10 models. But what I personally love most about the Galaxy Tab S11 series is that it shows Samsung's ability to listen and try out new things.
What do I mean by this? Well, some of you might recall that, in the summer of 2024, before Samsung shelved the 11-inch Galaxy Tab S10 model, we began wondering if the company had picked the wrong Tab to cancel. This year, Samsung appears to have come to the same conclusion.
For reasons I won't repeat here, last year, we wondered if Samsung should shelve the Tab S Plus variant and keep the base and Ultra models. Instead, Samsung canned the base model and focused on the Plus and Ultra.
However, this year, Samsung went back to the drawing board and applied the strategy we preferred last year. In other words, there is no Galaxy Tab S11+, but prospective buyers can choose from a base 11-inch variant that costs less and the 14.6-inch Ultra tablet.
We feel like the 11-inch tablet offers a sweet spot and a good balance between size and price. Of course, there's no way to know if the 2025 Galaxy Tab S11 will perform better than the 2024 Galaxy Tab S10+. We could be proven wrong, but we have to appreciate that Samsung was willing to shuffle the board and try again.
Maybe the Galaxy Tab S12 series will look different. Or maybe the S11 series will convince Samsung that the Plus variant was always the one that needed to go first. Time will tell.
In the meantime, we hope that Samsung will start paying more attention to the tablet segment and what Apple is doing, and reconsider revamping its low-cost tablet strategy. The Tab S11 launch could mark only the beginning of a new era for Samsung tablets. One can only hope.
If you're in the market for a premium Samsung tablet, the 11-inch Galaxy Tab S11 starts at $799 without a trade-in. At the moment, Samsung offers an early adopter storage upgrade for free.
