I think it's fair to say that Samsung's premium phones over the past few years haven't had the most outstanding camera designs. Not that I'm complaining per se. I value build quality, software optimization, and other practical aspects a lot more. And if that means a stale design, I think it's a fair trade.
But stale it has been, indeed. I can't deny that. Nevertheless, Samsung might spice things up a bit with the launch of the Galaxy S26 series next year. Is that enough?
The upcoming flagships might adopt a more Fold 7-esque camera hump, but I'm not so sure that's the best idea. To be blunt, I'm just not a big fan of the Galaxy Z Fold 7 camera housing.
It almost seems like Samsung has run out of ideas, but that's not actually what's happening here. If you know where to look, you'll find some interesting concepts.
The funny thing about Samsung's camera designs is that the company hasn't given up experimenting with new ideas. It's just that those experiments don't happen in the premium segment.
It's the mid-range market where things are a little bit more exciting, or at least, not as stale as they are at the premium end of the spectrum.
In my opinion, the Galaxy A56 has one of the best-looking camera housings in the 2025 Samsung phone lineup. At the very least, it looks different and doesn't look cheap, despite the mid-range segment.

Likewise, Samsung has experimented with interesting camera design concepts on mid-range spin-offs such as the Galaxy M56 and F56. Once again, they look pretty unique and not under budget.
If you ask me, these mid-range camera designs look better than the Fold 7's, and especially the Galaxy S25 Edge's, which is kind of an eyesore if you look at it the “wrong” way.

The mid-range market is where the magic happens and where Samsung still dares to think outside the box when cooking up new camera housing ideas.
I'm not one to care much about camera housings if everything else is just right. Optimization is probably my favorite aspect of any phone.
However, for the sake of some diversity after all these years of having circular camera rings and nothing else, I hope that Samsung's future flagships will capture some of the creative spirit that some of its mid-range phones possess.
Will the S26 series do that? I'm not sold yet based on leaks, but the final product could look different or better. We'll see early next year.

Exciting things are happening, just not in the flagship department
