As reported earlier today, Samsung's TM Roh hasn't ruled out the possibility of a price increase for the next-gen Galaxy flagship phones in some regions. Current market conditions and memory chip shortages may necessitate this. And that's not all. According to another report from Korea, Galaxy S26 pre-order perks may also be at risk.

Nothing appears to have been set in stone just yet, but reportedly, Samsung could try to navigate these chip-related issues and unfavorable market conditions in several ways. One possible outcome may be the discontinuation of the double storage program.

For many years, Samsung enticed new Galaxy phone buyers with valuable pre-order perks, including a free memory upgrade. Usually, this is the most attractive pre-order perk for new flagship phone buyers.

Nobody says no to more storage, especially if it's free. Plus, the lack of expandable storage has made the double storage pre-order perk even more desirable.

Although this freebie meant that Samsung earned less per unit sold, the free storage bonus also helped boost early sales figures. All in all, it was worth it for Samsung and phone buyers alike.

As per reports from Korea, internally, Samsung is now considering reducing pre-order benefits. The company could approach this strategy from different angles, but the most drastic measure would be to shelve the double storage pre-order bonus for the upcoming Galaxy S26 series.

The Galaxy S26 may be the first Samsung flagship in many years to lose this early buyer benefit. Whether this measure would allow Samsung to maintain Galaxy S26 launch prices without a price hike is unclear.

Generally speaking, a memory upgrade from 256GB to 512GB usually costs $120. That's a considerable amount of cash relative to the cost of flagships at launch.

There's no telling if this pre-order downgrade will come to pass, but Samsung has a few more weeks to decide on a strategy before the Galaxy S26 lineup is unveiled at Unpacked.
