Well, this is exciting: Just a couple of days after Samsung rolled out the One UI 8 update to the Galaxy S25 series, a One UI 8.5 firmware for the Ultra model has been spotted on the company's servers! One UI 8 is already the fastest a new version of One UI has been released to the public, and it seems One UI 8.5 development is happening at a quick pace as well.
Samsung didn't just start working on One UI 8.5. That happened a couple of months ago, and now, the appearance of the first actual firmware is a sign that the company is hard at work. That said, you should temper your expectations. No matter how quickly One UI 8.5 is developed, Samsung is unlikely to release it to any device before the Galaxy S26 launch next year.
One UI 8.5 firmware for the Galaxy S26 have revealed some of the upgrades the next flagship Galaxy S lineup will bring, including 60W charging support for the Ultra model. However, it's unclear when new features the update itself will offer. We have it on good authority that it will come with a new version of the Samsung Internet browser, but other than that, it's mostly a mystery.
It will be interesting to see if someone will find a way to download these early One UI 8.5 firmware, similar to how One UI 8.0 firmware for several flagship Galaxy phones leaked before Samsung officially released the update in beta. Samsung fixed the loophole that allowed people to do that, but here's hoping a workaround will be found.
