Last month, Connectivity Standard Alliance (CSA) announced the Matter 1.5 smart home standard, bringing support for cameras, closures, soil sensors, and improved energy management. Within a month, Samsung has announced that its smart home platform, SmartThings, now supports Matter 1.5.

With this announcement, SmartThings has become the first smart home platform in the world to support Matter 1.5. It shows how committed Samsung is to Matter. Later this month, the company will release an update to the SmartThings app, allowing you to add Matter-supported cameras, closures (like doors and window blinds), and soil sensors to your SmartThings-powered smart home setup.

Security cameras and video doorbells are an essential part of modern connected homes, Matter 1.5 supports such devices. With the new update, SmartThings will support event history, live video streaming, motion detection, pan-tilt-zoom controls, and two-way communication on Matter-compatible smart cameras.

Samsung is already collaborating with Aqara, Eve, and Ulticam to launch Matter-based cameras that can seamlessly integrate with SmartThings. Those devices will start launching around March 2026. The South Korean firm has already worked with Aqara, Arlo, Hue, Ring, and others for security cameras and video doorbells that work on SmartThings, and Matter gives users even more choice.
