One UI 8.5 is the next major update for Galaxy phones and tablets, and it’s one many users are eagerly anticipating. Samsung has decided to skip One UI 8.1 and 8.1.1, moving straight from One UI 8.0 to 8.5, with the official debut coming next year alongside the Galaxy S26 series.
Samsung will run a One UI 8.5 beta program for select existing devices, though as of December 5, the company hasn’t confirmed which models will be included. It’s unclear whether the Galaxy S24 lineup will be part of the beta, but you don’t have to wait to see One UI 8.5 running on Samsung’s 2024 flagship.
We were able to install an early build on the Galaxy S24 Ultra and have screenshots that you can check out below. From what we can tell, almost everything seen on the leaked One UI 8.5 builds for the Galaxy S25 Ultra is also present on the S24 Ultra.
The similarities extend to the missing camera modes as well. The latest One UI 8.5 test builds for the Galaxy S25 Ultra and Galaxy Z Fold 7 lack Dual Rec and Single Take modes, and the S24 Ultra is missing them too. This suggests Samsung may be planning to merge these modes later on, though that’s only speculation for now.
The new Galaxy AI features coming with the Galaxy S26 are missing as well, but that isn't surprising. Samsung will only begin porting those AI features to older devices toward the end of the One UI 8.5 beta program or release them separately after the Galaxy S26 lineup has been announced. We’ll let you know when we learn more, so stay tuned.
