It's been known for some time now that a Tap to Transfer feature will soon be available on Samsung Wallet in the United States. This feature will make it possible to send money to friends and family just by tapping your phones together, simplifying tasks such as splitting a dinner bill.

The company has announced today that Samsung Wallet's new Tap to Transfer feature for person-to-person payments will be live in the US “later this month”. In addition to tapping phones together for transfers, it's also possible to send money to someone's Samsung Wallet even if they're not nearby.

Funds can also be transferred by tapping on their debit card

Samsung Wallet's Tap to Transfer feature makes it easy to send money to someone's bank account without having to use a third-party app like Cash App or Venmo. You can send money through a Visa or Mastercard stored in Samsung Wallet by tapping your phone with the recipients. The money will be sent to the debit card in the recipient's wallet.

Since this transfer is made over NFC, the recipient could be using any wallet app and not Samsung Wallet necessarily, and they'll still be able to receive money. Even if they don't have a digital wallet app, you can tap your phone to their physical debit card and also transfer money, as along as their card's chip has support for tap-to-pay, which almost every debit card does now.

For transfers to people who aren't nearby, you can send money to their Samsung Wallet directly by searching for their phone number in the app. This adds another layer of convenience to person-to-person payments if, for example, you can't hang around until the bill is settled, so you can just pay for your share of the dinner later on directly into their Samsung Wallet.
