Our storage needs are steadily growing year after year, whether we're using smartphones, gaming consoles, PCs, or even wearable devices. Samsung is now addressing these steeper requirements, particularly for PlayStation 5 and PC users. This week, the company introduced a new, high-capacity 9100 PRO SSD variant.
The 9100 PRO SSD Samsung released earlier this year is incredibly fast and powerful, but at launch, it was available with 1TB, 2TB, or 4TB of storage. Now, Samsung offers an 8TB variant for pre-order in the USA.
The 8TB option is available for both 9100 PRO versions — with and without a heatsink. As usual, the heatsink model is recommended for PlayStation 5 users who intend to lock the SSD in the console's storage expansion bay. The standard version without a heatsink should work just fine for most PC users.

Whether it stores 1TB or 8TB of data, the Samsung 9100 PRO SSD is a high-end solution based on the PCIe 5.0 interface. It's not cheap, but it is very fast and reliable. Here's what the new 8TB model costs.
At present, the 8TB 9100 PRO is available for pre-order in the USA, which means it should hit the shelves in a few weeks at most.
If you're looking for a smaller version, the 1TB, 2TB, and 4TB variants are already available, and, at the moment, they're discounted at the Samsung USA e-shop.
Performance is virtually the same across all storage variants, with slight increases for the beefier 4TB and 8TB variants.
The 9100 PRO SSD offers sequential read and write speeds of up to 14,000 and 13,400 MB/s, respectively. And it benefits from the usual Samsung SSD goodies, such as compatibility with the Samsung Magician Software, which provides easy access to firmware updates and other tools.
