Last month, Samsung released an update to the Camera Assistant app for Galaxy phones. It added the ‘3D capture’ feature, which could take spatial photos and videos aimed to be viewed in Galaxy XR headsets. It suggested that the brand is developing an XR headset and that it can show photos and videos in 3D.
Considering that Samsung hadn't launched the XR headset yet, it was surprising to see the company adding the 3D feature meant for the headset to Camera Assistant. Well, the South Korean tech giant's latest move suggests that it might have released the feature mistakenly.
On X, @Alfaturk16 reports that Samsung is rolling out a new update to the Camera Assistant app, and it removes the 3D capture feature. It suggests that the brand had previously offered the feature mistakenly, and now, it has removed the feature to rectify the mistake and save it for the Galaxy XR headset launch.
According to a recent report, Samsung will launch the brand’s first XR headset on 21 October 2025 and price it at around KRW 2 million. Reportedly, the company has planned to manufacture 100,000 units of the product initially. Based on the initial sales, the company is said to adjust its manufacturing for the future.
