Texas has emerged has Samsung's preferred destination to make advanced semiconductors in the United States. The company has invested billions of dollars in new facilities, and the state is actively incentivizing these capital injections.
Samsung has now been awarded a $250 million grant through the Texas Semiconductor Innovation Fund for its facility in Taylor, Texas.
Texas Governor Greg Abbott announced yesterday that the $250 million grant was extended to Samsung Austin Semiconductor following a meeting with top executives at the state capitol. Samsung's project in Taylor, Texas has over $4.73 billion in capital investment.
Samsung has invested significantly in Texas for its semiconductor production. Around $40 billion have been invested so far. The facility in Taylor is one of Samsung's most advanced ones yet in the state, and it will deliver a secure domestic supply for advanced chips in the United States.
Samsung had confirmed the Taylor facility in 2021 where it will on-shore the manufacturing of cutting-edge 2nm chips that will power leading technologies such as high-performance computing, AI, and 5G.
The state continues to extend grants and incentives to Samsung in order to sweeten the deal for the semiconductor giant. Samsung has reciprocated by ensuring significant capital investments in Texas as the US continues to push for a more domestic supply chain of advanced chips.
