Samsung's clamshell foldable has come a long way since the original Galaxy Z Flip, and on July 9, the company will take the stage in New York City to unveil the latest model, the Galaxy Z Flip 7.
What is the upcoming flip phone bringing to the table? What specs, features, and upgrades can you expect? Let's break down everything we know so far.
The Galaxy Z Flip 5 was the first phone in the lineup that had an actually usable cover screen. With the Flip 7, Samsung is taking things up step further: the cover screen will now span the entire front side of the device, wrapping around the camera lenses similar to the Motorola Razr 40 Ultra.

According to leaks, the cover screen will measure 4 to 4.1 inches, a noticeable jump from the 3.4-inch panels on the Flip 5 and Flip 6. It might also feature a 120Hz refresh rate. It remains to be seen how the user interface will adapt to the bigger canvas, though we think the space around the cameras looks ideal for One UI's Now Bar, which shows live activities, notifications, and media controls in a glanceable and interactive format.
Despite the larger cover screen estate, we don't expect Samsung to offer support for running full-fledged apps on it. Not unless you use the company's Good Lock app, which can force any app or game to run on the cover screen.
The foldable screen is expected to be 6.9 inches in size, with a peak brightness of 2,600 nits (same as the Flip 6) and a 120Hz refresh rate. Samsung probably hasn't done much to reduce the visibility of the foldable screen's crease, though we can't be sure until we see the actual device.
Samsung is breaking with tradition this year by using an Exynos chip in a foldable Galaxy phone for the first time ever. The Galaxy Z Flip 7 will use the Exynos 2500 chipset in every single market, including the USA. It remains to be seen how good the Exynos 2500 is, but early performance figures are impressive.

And while its performance may not match the Snapdragon 8 Elite's, for thin devices like Samsung's Galaxy Z Flip smartphones, that may be a good thing as far as heat management is concerned. Because of their size, these phones offer the smallest vapor chamber cooling system of any flagship, and the Snapdragon 8 Elite is too much of a beast to be a good match for even non-folding phones like the Galaxy S25 Edge.
We expect the Galaxy Z Flip 7 to feature 12GB of RAM as standard and offer 256GB of storage on the base variant. Samsung will likely offer a 512GB storage variant as well. Just don't expect a 1TB variant, as Samsung reserves those for its most powerful and top-of-the-line flagships.
The Flip 7's connectivity features will include 5G, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, NFC, and a USB 3.2 Type-C port. The Exynos 2500 supports satellite messaging, so we expect that to be a feature on the phone.
For many, the Galaxy Z Flip 7's battery capacity may be the most exciting upgrade. Samsung equipped the Galaxy Z Flip 6 with a 4,000 mAh battery, a 300 mAh bump from the Galaxy Z Flip 5, and it is once again introducing a similar jump in capacity for the second year in a row.
The Galaxy Z Flip 7 is confirmed, thanks to our sources and various certifications, to feature a 4,300 mAh battery. That's just a 100 mAh less than the battery in Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold handsets, so we expect the Flip 7 to be an absolute monster as far as battery life is concerned, at least for a clamshell foldable.
However, charging speeds are not getting an upgrade. The Galaxy Z Flip 7 will support 25W super fast charging with a compatible charger.

The Galaxy Z Flip 7 will likely disappoint photography enthusiasts, just like all existing Flip smartphones. We expect it to feature the same camera setup as the Flip 6: a 50MP primary camera, a 12MP ultrawide camera, and a 10MP front-facing camera. With the cover screen now taking up the entire top half of the phone, we don't see Samsung equipping the Flip lineup with a zoom camera anytime soon.
Of course, thanks to the form factor, taking pictures and videos on the Flip 7 will be as fun as its predecessors. Thanks to Flex mode, these phones can turn into mini tripods for hands-free shooting, which is great for group selfies, time-lapses, or showing your dancing talent to your followers on TikTok. You can even take high-quality selfies by using the 50MP main camera with the cover screen acting as the viewfinder.
Samsung also offers powerful editing tools powered by Galaxy AI, including a fantastic object eraser, that make it easy to edit and enhance photos and videos after you have taken them.
The Galaxy Z Flip 7 will run One UI 8 (Android 16) out of the box, and it will have all the Galaxy AI features people have come to love. However, as far as new software tricks are concerned, everything's a mystery for now.
Samsung is reportedly developing an image-to-video AI feature that uses Google Gemini's AI video generation models, but it's unclear if this feature will be available on Samsung's upcoming foldables.
What's certain is that the Galaxy Z Flip 7 will be eligible for seven major OS upgrades and seven years of security updates.
Samsung's Galaxy Z Flip smartphones have always been the thinnest clamshell foldables on the market, and the Galaxy Z Flip 7 will reportedly be the thinnest model yet. Rumors say the Flip 7 is 13.7mm and 6.5mm thick when folded and unfolded respectively.

Given the bigger battery, those are impressive dimensions, with the thickness lower than that of the Flip 6, which measures 14.9mm when folded and 6.9mm when folded.
Samsung will also introduce the Flip 7 in at least three colors, two of which—Coral Red and Blue Shadow—are extremely attractive. For the traditionalists, the phone will also come in Jet Black.
The Galaxy Z Flip 7 will go official on July 9, and we expect it to go up for pre-order on the same day. Samsung will likely set the release date for around two weeks later.
There are conflicting rumors about the Galaxy Z Flip 7's price, but some dependable sources suggest that, at least in Europe, it will be €100 cheaper than the Flip 6. The base variant with 256GB storage will reportedly cost €1,099 instead of €1,199, while the 512GB variant could cost €1,219.
The official price and release date will ultimately be revealed at Samsung's Unpacked event, not before. However, if your heart is already set on getting the Flip 7, you can reserve one on Samsung's website and benefit from early bonuses when you pre-order the phone.
