Samsung’s laptops and PCs are currently powered by either ChromeOS or Windows. During the recent Snapdragon Summit event, Google revealed that it is developing a version of Android designed for laptops and PCs. This new OS could potentially be used by Samsung in the future to make laptops and PCs.

A few months ago, Google revealed that future versions of ChromeOS will be powered by the foundations of Android. And it looks like the company is closer to its vision, as when Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon hinted at Android-powered PCs during the Snapdragon Summit event, the head of the Android Ecosystem at Google, Sameer Samat, said, “something we’re super excited about for next year.

The Google executive said that the company is super committed to ChromeOS and that it has learnt a lot from the platform. He also said Google wants to bring all those learnings, merge them with its recent advancements in AI on Android, and bring all those things to a laptop form factor.

Sameer Samat hinted that Google plans to bring ChromeOS-like UI to the Android platform for laptops and PCs. The company is working with Qualcomm and others for this upcoming version of Android. It isn’t clear if those devices will be powered by Qualcomm’s smartphone-focused Snapdragon chips or laptop-focused Snapdragon X series chips.

Talking about the upcoming platform and devices based on it, Cristiano Amon said, “I’ve seen it, it is incredible. It delivers on the vision of convergence of mobile and PC. I can’t wait to have one.

Samsung is a close partner to Google and Qualcomm. It often gets the first dibs on Android features that Google makes, and is Qualcomm’s biggest partner for smartphone chips. So, it is likely that the South Korean firm will make at least one Galaxy Book laptop that uses the laptop-optimized version of Android.
