A couple of days ago, the YouTube channel Moore’s Law Is Dead claimed that Samsung will end the production of SATA SSD products, such as the 870 Evo, soon. Well, the South Korean tech giant has confirmed that it has no such plans of doing so.
Wccftech reached out to Samsung regarding the report about it discontinuing the SATA SSD production. Replying to it, a Samsung Electronics spokesperson said, “The rumor regarding the phasing out of Samsung SATA or other SSDs is false.”
Recently, Micron, one of the biggest players in the storage market, announced that it is ending the consumer business. With no SATA SSDs from two prominent brands in the storage market, Micron and Samsung, it was expected that there would be a shortage of this type of storage drive, which would lead to their prices going up.
As such, people were expected to panic buy. However, the new report from Samsung will be a relief for SATA SSD manufacturers, retailers, and consumers. That being said, there's still a massive shortage of memory in the market, owing to the rise of AI, and soon, it is expected that the prices of storage drives will go up significantly.
