The European Union (EU) continues to introduce stricter rules and regulations each year, forcing major technology companies like Apple, Google, and Samsung to adapt quickly. To better navigate this complex regulatory landscape, Samsung Electronics has hired a former Microsoft executive with deep expertise in digital policy.

Samsung recently hired Jeremy Rollison, who spent more than a decade at Microsoft, most recently serving as head of the company’s EU policy team. After graduating from the University of Richmond in Virginia and earning a master’s degree in European studies from the Paris Institute of Political Studies in France, Rollison began his career at Nokia. He joined Microsoft in 2014 and played a key role in shaping the company’s approach to EU regulations and digital policy.

Rollison has now joined Samsung’s Europe external relations team in Brussels, which is the center of EU policymaking. Samsung is expected to benefit from his experience as it works to strengthen its positions on artificial intelligence (AI), cloud computing, and cybersecurity.

Europe remains a crucial market for Samsung, accounting for around 17 percent (KRW 50.1 trillion or $33.94 billion) of the company’s overall revenue in 2025. As a result, Rollison’s appointment could prove vital as Samsung navigates increasingly strict EU regulations, including the Digital Markets Act (DMA).

Under the DMA, the EU has designated seven companies as digital gatekeepers: Alphabet, Amazon, Apple, Booking, ByteDance, Meta, and Microsoft. These firms were identified as having significant market power and the ability to influence competition.

Samsung narrowly avoided being classified as a gatekeeper, making it even more important for the company to carefully align its policies and business practices to remain compliant.
