Samsung has been heavily promoting its Galaxy AI suite since the beginning of 2024. Although it felt a bit annoying to see the “Galaxy AI” buzzword every time a new device launched, I could look past it. But a couple of weeks ago, I think Samsung crossed a line it never should have.

What do I mean by this? Well, the only way I can describe it is that, roughly two weeks ago, Samsung's global YouTube channel started publishing AI slop to promote Neo QLED TVs. Worse yet, it's low-effort AI-generated content. It sounds bad, it looks bad, and on top of it all, the irony of Samsung making this content is simply stunning.

Do you recall Samsung's “UnCrush” ad against Apple? If you don't, here's a quick recap.

Last year, Apple launched an ad featuring a hydraulic press squishing a bunch of analog devices and turning them into a thin iPad Pro.

The idea that Apple was trying to sell was that you could get digital alternatives to countless analog instruments and tools with just an iPad.

However, the ad backfired. Everyone resented Apple for showing the destruction of beloved analog devices and their replacement with digital alternatives.

It didn't take long for Samsung to jump on the opportunity to mock Apple once again. Samsung quickly released the UnCrush ad with the tagline, “We would never crush creativity.” It featured a real person playing a classical guitar.

A year later, Samsung is flooding its YouTube channel with AI slop​


Needless to say, after watching Samsung's new AI-generated ads, the irony is stunning. Just one year after Samsung claimed that it would never crush creativity, the company has seemingly replaced its witty, human-made ads with cheap, AI-generated alternatives.

And here's the worst part. Most AI-generated ads on Samsung's channel promote TVs using the catchphrase “It's fake; choose real!” The ads are referring to the competition not measuring up to Samsung's real QLED technology. Do you see what I mean about irony?

For the past two weeks, the company has crushed creativity on its YouTube channel and encouraged people to “choose real” through low-effort fake AI videos.

This feel so backwards that I have to wonder if Samsung's doing it on purpose. Either way, I don't feel like Samsung is hitting the mark.

AI will inevitably become a part of our digital lives, even more so than it is today. But Samsung's approach with this recent YouTube content is a little infuriating and disappointing. If Samsung decides to use AI, it should lead by example rather than stooping so low as to generating AI slop.

Samsung has a reputation for putting out high-quality ads that challenge the competition and customers alike. The most successful ads Samsung released over the past couple of decades were funny, if not thought-provoking, and always had a human element to them.

That's not how I can describe these new AI-generated ads. A real human may have fed the scripts to an AI, but the human element is completely gone from the final product. If this is what real creativity looks like to Samsung, I want nothing to do with it.

Going from “Creativity cannot be crushed” and “We would never crush creativity” to this AI YouTube spam in one year is just unbelievable. Not to mention the irony of an AI telling viewers to “choose real.”

I hope Samsung finds a better way. I don't mind the company promoting Galaxy AI tools or using AI to enhance its ads, but I'm sure there is a better way to do this without creating low-effort content.

Besides, most Samsung Neo QLED TVs are actually great. They deserve better than this, so I'd advise you to simply ignore these ads and don't let Samsung's low-effort AI ads turn you off from a good deal.
