Samsung’s flagship soundbar from last year, the Q990D, offers a ton of features. Now, the South Korean tech giant is rolling out a new software update to the model. It adds one more feature to the list called Auto Power Off, which could end up saving you a little money on electricity bill.
On Reddit, a Q990D user reports that they the soundbar received a new software update. It carries firmware version 1024.1. After installing the update, when they opened the SmartThings app and headed to the soundbar’s settings, they discovered a new option called ‘Auto Power Off.‘

The description for the feature says “The soundbar will automatically turn off if no audio signal is detected for 18 minutes in TV ARC, HDM1, HDMI 2, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, or D.IN mode.” As you might have understood from the description, Auto Power Off can automatically turn off the soundbar if it doesn’t detect audio signal for 18 minutes.
Soundbars, such as the Q990D, which use Class-D amplifiers, don’t consume a lot of power when they are not playing audio. However, even a little power saving could add up to a considerable amount of money in the long run. A few also report that the new firmware fixes eARC issues introduced with the firmware version 1024.
