Samsung continues to increase its use of automation in manufacturing Galaxy smartphones. The South Korean firm has reportedly introduced another robot into the production process for Galaxy phones and tablets, replacing a task that was previously handled by humans.
According to TheBell, Samsung has started using a new robot from Wonik Robotics to apply authentication stickers to the back of Galaxy smartphones. While the task may sound simple, it requires precise pressure control to avoid damaging the phone’s glass or plastic back panel. The robot uses a mechanical arm with a newer-generation technology to carry out the process safely and with improved precision.
It's unclear whether this robot is being used in only some or all of Samsung's smartphone factories.
Last year, it also supplied autonomous mobile robots to Samsung Electro-Mechanics’ manufacturing plant in Busan, South Korea. The increased adoption of such robots has been a boost for Wonik. The South Korean robotics firm earned KRW 28.9 billion (~$19.61 million) in robot sales in the third quarter of 2025 alone.
Wonik Robotics is currently working on an advanced robotic arm with 21 degrees of freedom (DoF), which could enable more human-hand-like movements. Currently, it is only for research purposes. If it performs well, Samsung could use it for additional tasks in making Galaxy devices in the future.
