Samsung's One UI 8 Watch update for Galaxy smartwatches is in development, and recent leaks have revealed several upcoming features, from new sounds and icons to home screen app shortcuts.
More to the point, a recent teardown (via Android Authority) suggests that One UI 8 Watch will introduce Samsung's fabled Antioxidant Index feature. Samsung briefly mentioned it when it announced the Galaxy S25 series in January without saying much about how it works.
The latest leaked information reveals that One UI 8 Watch will add the Antioxidant Index feature to Samsung Health. How will it work? It appears that Galaxy Watch users can measure beta carotene levels by placing their thumbs on the BioMetric sensor.
The strings of code say, “For more accurate results, measure with your thumb, not your wrist.” Evidently, Samsung will recommend taking the Galaxy Watch off for more accurate antioxidant readings, which seems highly unusual.
Galaxy Watch wearers will also have the option of referring to a daily average and see if their antioxidant levels are “low” or “adequate.”
By measuring beta carotene levels in the user's system, this new Antioxidant Index feature may also enable better nutritional advice and tips through the Samsung Health app.
Although the Antioxidant Index appears to be in development for One UI 8 Watch, it's unclear if existing smartwatch models will support it or if the feature will be exclusive to Samsung's upcoming Galaxy Watches.
Samsung is expected to announce new Galaxy Watches at the next Unpacked event this summer. Leaks hint at the Classic series making a return this year, but there is also a rumor that Samsung may announce an updated version of the Watch Ultra.
