Although the Android 15-based One UI 7 update has barely started reaching more Galaxy devices, it's no secret that Samsung is already working on the upcoming One UI 8 firmware. One UI 8 is based on Android 16, and a recent teardown reveals some interesting new security features.

With Android 16, Google wants to make security one of its top priorities. A recent teardown of the Google Play Services beta app in Android 16 revealed clues of a new security system called Intrusion Detection (via Android Authority). Here's what it might do.

Strings of code found in the Google Play Services beta app, version 25.18.31, reveal that this so-called Intrusion Detection system could provide users with activity logs.

Through these logs, Android 16 users may be able to check for suspicious activity regarding USB events, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connections, app installs, and lock screen information. Intrusion Detection might even keep and offer access to logs on browsing history.

All these logs appear to be end-to-end encrypted and stored on a “private and encrypted” Google Drive, where only the user has access after providing the Google account password and device lock screen information.

It looks like this Intrusion Detection system could prove very useful for people who want to ensure that their sensitive data is secure and hasn't been tampered with.

Supposedly, Intrusion Detection could be a part of the Advanced Protection Mode in Android 16. However, whether or not these features will make it into Samsung's One UI 8 update is to be determined.

An early development version of One UI 8 has already leaked, but it's feature set is relatively basic. The full-fledged update, which should contain more features, is expected to debut with the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7 foldable phones this summer.
